A cute book that explains what Presidents' Day is and tells the story of what one class does to celebrate it.

What Presidents Are Made Of by Hanoch Piven:

Hanoch Piven is an incredible illustrator who uses everyday items to create, look like, and represent the Presidents of the United States. I had the opportunity to be a part of a Skype session with Hanoch Piven. He was a joy to listen to and learn from. After talking to him, the students created their own portraits from objects around the classroom and from their homes. The students also used Hanoch Piven's app, Faces iMake HD, to create  their own simile books!

 

Looking at Lincoln by Maira Kalman:

This funny and touching story tells the journey of one small girl who gets separated from her tour group and ends up in Lincoln's bedroom where she finds the ghost of Lincoln himself.
