Groundhog Day Countdown: Books

Very fun book. Might be a little challenging for a read aloud but it could be done with the use of a document camera.

A very informative book about Groundhog Day.

Poor Groundhog can't sleep so he goes outside and gets to experience many of the other
wonderful holidays.


Gretchen Groundhog, It's Your Day! by Abby Levine:
Sweet story about a young groundhog who comes to the rescue to save Groundhog's day. There is also a short About Groundhog Day section at the beginning of the book.

Punxsutawney Phyllis by Susanna Leonard Hill:
Phyllis must wake and convince Punxsutawney Phil to make his official prediction that spring will come early this year.


Groundhog Gets a Say by Pamela Curtis Swallow:
Groundhog wants everyone to learn about and appreciate all that groundhogs really do and celebrate them for not just a day but an entire month.


Who Will See Their Shadows This Year? by Jerry Pallotta and David Biedrzycki:
A very cute book in which a lot of animals look to see if they can see their shadows. It is a very short book with adorable illustrations. Probably best for the younger grades.
